Glazing bottle caps

More bottle cap experiments, these are glazed with various gel paint mediums I have in my studio, some have a solid finish and others are soft enough to leave fingerprints in (and all have to be applied in thin coats or risk obscuring the drawings etc).

I'm going to try some varnishes/epoxy next.

Teal Teddy

The newest teddy in the collection.
He's made from teal glazed cotton with hand embroidered seams and eyes (approx. 16cm tall)

Splat Bear Pin Cushion

I made this little splat bear specially for my mother
(a keen cross-stitcher and fan of my work - naturally)

He's approx. 3 inches tall. Made with denim and plush fabric.
Denim is great for pin cushions because it gently polishes the pins/needles as they move through the fabric.

Bottle Caps

My local pub has kindly collected a sizeable bunch of bottle caps for me to create recycled art accessories with, these are my (very) early experiments:

I'm quite keen on turning the rims down by hand but have yet to perfect the technique, but I've also got to work on creating holes for findings (my plan is to produce pendants, key-rings and maybe some magnets) and settle on a finishing/varnish method.

Once I'm happy with the overall look of the cap I'll turn my attention to the images inside - I've got a feeling the miniatures I produce will be quite intricate and involve cross-hatching...

Feeling blue Teddy?

This teddy is one of a kind, made from a pattern I drafted myself and later altered. For some reason he reminds me a little of a clanger (might be because of his nose)

Object Creatures

Two more surreal specimens, the beginnings of a flock perhaps...

Ridged Comb Tail
Long Billed Bottle Neck

Object Creature

This unusual specimen was sketched as a bit of fun and partly out of curiosity, the design is constructed from a series of household objects. The result is surreal but quite effective, I may even try a few more...

A combination of ideas

A combination of catalogue drawings and the decorative motifs I've been sketching recently, this is most likely the starting point to a series of works that feature a fusion of decorative elements and household items.

sneak peak- everyday jumble

Here's a small preview of my latest drawing, its an abstract jumble of fragmented everyday objects - I'm revisiting/revitilising some past ideas around the theme of everyday, particularly the abstraction of household objects.

On another note: I think my cross-hatching phase is hitting its peak about now...
keep an eye out for the finished drawing - I'll be posting it up soon.

Happy New Year

Welcome to 2013, I hope this year treats you better than the last.

Personally I'm looking forward to what I hope will be a very successful, productive and above all creative year. I'm back now from my blogging (christmas) break so watch this space for more of my creative endeavours...
